APPALACHIAN TRAIL THRU-HIKERS DIRECTIONS

All hikers are welcomed at the adventure lodge, especially if you hike here from Georgia or Maine; wow you need a rest! The Appalachian Trail can be accessed literally from across the street, so you can get here without having to hike too far out of the way.

Hikers heading north (from Shenandoah National Park):

After Mt. Weather, you'll arrive in Bluemont and begin the 'roller coaster'. Upon passing Bear's Den, you'll hike less than a mile and come to highway VA-7. In order to continue on the AT you would turn left and then cross the highway. However, to get to Ginger Hill, turn RIGHT and walk towards the yellow flashing sign and pass the AT parking lot.

At the top of the parking lot, there is an intersection with Blue Ridge Mountain Road. Turn left and cross the highway--the road becomes Ravens Rocks Rd on the other side. The lodge is the first house on the right, #18116.

Hikers heading south (from West Virginia):

After passing the amazing view from Raven Rocks, you'll cross into Virginia and come into the town limits of Bluemont. From Raven Rocks, you'll hike another 3 miles to the highway VA-7. In order to continue on the AT you would cross the highway and turn left. However, to get to Ginger Hill, turn left WITHOUT CROSSING the highway and walk towards the yellow flashing sign.

At the top of the ridge, there is an intersection with Ravens Rocks Rd. Turn left here; the lodge is the first house on the right, #18116.

CAR DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Even non-hiking city folks are welcome at the adventure lodge, especially if you want to start hiking or take a kayak out on the river. Wow that city is noisy... but over here our Blue Ridge Mountains are so peaceful.

From DC/Northern VA/Dulles Airport:

Follow I-66 W and VA-267 W (passing Dulles Airport--arrivals from airport start here heading on VA-267 W / towards Leesburg)

Take exit 1A from VA-267 W (to US-15 S / VA-7 W / Leesburg Bypass in Leesburg); continue straight to stay on VA-7 W.

After passing Round Hill you will start heading up the mountain; look for the flashing yellow sign at the top of the ridge, and make the first right onto Raven Rocks Rd.

Ginger Hill is the first house on the right, #18116.

*Time: Without traffic, it should take only 1 hour to get here from the White House / Washington DC.*

From Winchester/I-81:

This is easy: take VA-7 E. Once past Berryville, you will cross the Shenandoah River and start climbing up the mountain.

Look for the flashing yellow sign at the top of the ridge and turn left onto Raven Rocks Rd.

Ginger Hill is the first house on the right, #18116.

*Time: It should take about 20 minutes to get here from I-81 in Winchester.*
